GL: What's the latest and greatest with Steve Forbes? "You know what man? I wish I had an answer for that. I have no idea what's going on with the Contender people and I don't know. I wish I knew what was happening. I'm really frustrated with these people because they aren't doing anything and I"m tired of sitting around doing nothing. I haven't spoken to these people in like a month and that conversation was bullshit."
GL: Since the fight with Demetrius Hopkins where most feel you got jobbed, you haven't fought.
Steve Forbes: "It's crazy. And I don't have nothing against Peter Manfredo and I think he's a good fighter, but they're pushing him and I'm stuck going nowhere. They're keeping him moving but I couldn't tell you when I'm fighting again and it makes no sense to me. I haven't heard shit and it's a shame man because I'm a legitimate fighter. The Contender has done absolutely nothing and it's messed up because I'm an old school guy who will fight anybody. I don't duck and dodge nobody out there and it's a shame."
GL: Do you feel if you were with a different promoter you would have already been back in the ring?
SF: "Absolutely. I talked to Bernard Hopkins after the fight and as a friend he told me the best thing I could do is get right back out there. Everybody knows I can fight but when you don't have a promoter who's helping you it's difficult. I've told the Contender that I feel like I'm on my own and by myself. Nobody from the Contender was at my fight with Hopkins. Somebody could have come down for a day. I think with a better promoter I would be moving along instead of being stuck with these people."
GL: What does your manager have to say about this?
SF: "He tries to call them and they hang up the phone on him. He's like he doesn't know what else to do."
GL: Are you asking for a release?
SF: "Yes. I have emailed them and asked for a release, but they haven't responded yet. I've got to get away from them because they aren't helping me at all. People knock the Contender but they can't knock me because I'm a legitimate fighter. I would think they'd want to move me, but they aren't. It's a shame man and I'm just frustrated with these people and I want to get out. I haven't talked to anyone and they don't talk to me and they don't attempt to contact me."
GL: Is there anything you'd like to say in closing?
SF: "I just want my promoter to do what they say and fight me every four months. Not every eight months. If they do what they say there will be no problem, if not I'd rather they just release me."
