GL: Before we get into any Cory Spinks talk can you give us some thoughts on Devon Alexander's win on Shobox the other night? "I thought Devon did his thing. I think Devon could have been a lot sharper, but he got a knockout win on national television so we're going to take it and keep moving forward."
GL: When can we expect him back in the ring and what's the blueprint for Devon in 07?
Kevin Cunningham: "The blueprint is to keep him on a fast track. He's one of the top three prospects in the world and we want to move him like the Peterson brothers and Andre Berto. We want him to be moved at the same pace as those guys."
GL: What would you like to see Devon execute that he wasn't on March 2?
KC: "You know me, I gave him about a C. He's was not as sharp as he normally is. When we're usually getting ready for a fight like that we're in camp, but certain circumstances prevented that. We had to come back home and deal with some family issues. He had to deal with getting ready for the first TV fight of his life while at home dealing with issues. He did well under the circumstances believe me."
GL: The latest talks on Boxingtalk regarding Cory Spinks have been related to Kassim Ouma. Since we last had you on Boxingtalk is there any update on that potential fight?
KC: "It hasn't gone nowhere since then. I was contacted by Ouma's manager. He stated that they want the fight and we let him know that we would fight Ouma because none of the other marquee fighters want to fight Cory. They all want to tap dance and pick these hand picked bums and I just can't understand why HBO is approving some of them."
GL: I was with Kassim in Vegas and we happened to bump into HBO VP Kery Davis and Golden Boy CEO Richard Schaefer at the Mosley-Collazo weigh-in. They both seemed to like the fight, have you spoken with Don King about the fight and if so, are you surprised that this fight has gone nowhere since these talks first started.
KC: "Yeah, I talked to Don about it and it's obvious they ain't liking it too much because they're hasn't been no date mentioned or no money mentioned. Here we are and they're already planning a June date for Shane Mosley, who just fought, so he can fight Carlos Baldomir. What the fuck is boxing coming to man?
GL: As much as you want to fight Ouma, I know you want to fight Mosley more, so I imagine that open invite for Mosley to challenge Spinks at 154 still stands, correct?
KC: "Definitely. And we'll even come down to 151 and meet him at a catch weight and if he don't want to come all the way up. But he doesn't want to fight world class fighters. He wants to hand pick B class and C class fighters. While his partners are fighting the best, he's looking for C class fighters. His boss has more balls than he does."
GL: When would you like Cory to get back in the ring?
KC: "As soon as possible man. All I know is this, Cory has one of the biggest hometown followings in boxing and the arena has dates available in June. With any kind of opponent with name recognition we could do 20,000. Ain't too many other fighters in boxing can say that, so I don't understand why we can't get dates. These motherfuckers out here making these bullshit motherfucking fights, it's sickening man."
