Spinks jinks ends Karmazin title reign... barely

Cory Spinks W12 Roman Karmazin... In his home of St. Louis and in the same ring where he was knocked out by Zab Judah in early 2005, Cory Spinks gained redemption by just barely outpointing Roman Karmazin to claim the IBF 154 pound championship. Spinks used an effective jab to dominate the action from the outside, and tied Karmazin when the Russian worked his way inside. However, Spinks tired in the later rounds and Karmazin appeared to control much of the second half of the fight. Karmazin has a legitimate gripe that if the referee didn't permit so much holding, the outcome might have been different. Still, this was Spinks' night, from his over-the-top entrance with rapper Yung Joc to his emotional celebration when his name was announced as the winner. Official scores were 115-113 (twice) and 114-114 The win boosts Spinks' record to 35-3. source: Showtime Championship Boxing
