After winning the IBF junor middleweight title by narrow decision over Roman Karmazin in front of over 12,000 hometown fans, St. Louis native Cory “The Next Generation” Spinks said, “I felt great tonight. Karmazin was very tough but I trained to fight twelve rounds and I did. I prayed every night for this. My trainer Kevin Cunningham always gives me extra ‘umph’. I painted a masterpiece with my natural talents. I knew I just needed to execute because I was ready. That’s just what I did.” Karmazin's take on the fight was, “Spinks was very tricky. It took me until the seventh round to figure him out, then he ran for the rest of the fight. It was hard to win with a referee like the one we had tonight. He didn’t let me work at close range.
