Sad news came to the boxing world today as members of the South American boxing community suffered the loss of immediate family members. Golden Boy Promotions announced the loss of Jorge Barrios Jr., the son of junior lightweight contender Jorge Barrios and his wife Laura, who passed away Wednesday just two hours after a premature birth in Argentina. “This news has devastated all of us,” said Golden Boy Promotions President Oscar De La Hoya. Also, the WBA announced the passing of Lucila Mendoza, mother of Mr. Gilberto Mendoza, President of Venezuela-based sanctioning body.
