Soto Defeats Lorenzo

Humberto Soto UD12 Francisco Lorenzo: On Saturday's Box Azteca Humberto Soto (46-7-2 29 KOs) defeated Francisco Lorenzo (33-5 14 KOs) in a rematch of their controversial first fight on the Pacquiao Diaz undercard that occured 6-28-08 in Las Vegas in which Soto was disqualified for hitting Lorenzo when he was on the canvas. This time in Cozumel, Mexico Soto took care of business in a wild and sloppy fight.

Lorenzo started out aggressive throwing a lot of punches, many of which were wild but Soto held his composure to win the round. In the 2nd round despite a headbutt Soto started taking control of the fight and tagging Lorenzo with power shots. In the third round Lorenzo started what ended up being a series of low blows and ended the round with a cheap shot way after the bell sounded. The fourth round started with another headbutt not even 10 seconds in. Soto was dominating the fight but Lorenzo was willing to do anything to try to gain an advantage. Lorenzo landed a few good shots but was no match for Soto. In the seventh round Lorenzo had a point deducted for 3 low blows and in the 8th round he had another point deducted for holding. Soto's corner was warned between the 7th and 8th round to cut out the rough house tactics by ref Jay Nady. Soto was able to drop Lorenzo once but couldn't come way with a knockout. The final scores were 117-109 two times and 118-108 on the final card.
