Sor Jaturong Is Back!

Former junior flyweight champion of the world Saman Sor Jaturong of Thailandwill end a retirement that has lasted nearly three years on January 21, 2005. Sor Jaturong will move up from 108 to 115 pounds, where he will face undefeated prospect, Devid Lookmahanak aka Devid Nakornlung Promotion. Sor Jaturong captured the linear junior flyweight championship of the world in Ring Magazine's 1995 Fight of the Year against Humberto Gonzalez. At the time, Gonzalez had just unified two world titles in a three-fight series against Michael Carbajal and Sor Jaturong seized the throne by stopping the Mexican legend in the seventh round. On the January 21 undercard, longtime WBC bantamweight champion, Veeraphol Sahaphrom aka Veeraphol Nakornlung Promotion (rated #2 by Boxingtalk), faces off against Filippino Edmund Velayo, a former challenger for minor titles at 105 and 112 pounds. The bout is expected to serve as a tune-up for Veeraphol, who will invade America in early 2005 for a mandatory defense against Diego Morales (Boxingtalk #9). Finally, the stong Thai undercard will also feature Naphaphol Kiattisakchokchai (Boxingtalk's #10 junior featherweight) against Jake Verano.
