Solo Boxeo main event ends in no contest

The Boxingtalk Scoreboard

Roberto Garcia NC3 Freddy Hernandez... In the Solo Boxeo main event from Brownsville, Texas, welterweight Roberto Garcia seemed to be on his way to a win when he accidentally butted Freddy Hernandez, leading to the bout being declared a no contest. Garcia (24-2) knocked Hernandez (22-1) down in round two with a long left, and appeared to be too strong for the taller Hernandez. The second headbutt of the bout caused a very small cut on Hernandez's eye lid, and the ringside doctor took a very conservative approach and ended the bout. source: solo boxeo on telefutura

Ronald Hearns W8 James Buggs... Ronald Hearns gutted out an eight-round unanimous decision victory over James Buggs (8-9-3) in Altoona, Iowa on Thurdsay. Hearns improved to 17-0 but injured his hand in the second round of the junior middleweight bout. "I hit him high on top of his head," Ronald Hearns told local press. "He kept coming in with his head bobbing and weaving, and when I hit him I felt like I knew it was broke." Hearns is getting checked out by a hand specialist. Boxing legends Thomas Hearns (Ronald's father) and Sugar Ray Leonard were both in attendance, 28 years almost to the day after Leonard won his first world title.  source: des moines register

Vusi Malinga TKO5 Sergio Caruso... Vusi Malinga stopped Argentina's Sergio Caruso in the fifth round to retain his regional bantamweight title in South Africa on Friday night. Caruso was down in the fourth and fifth rounds, but was on his feet when the referee stopped the bout. Caruso's corner protested the stoppage as premature. Malinga, now 17-2-1, could be in line for a fight against either WBC champion Hosumi Hasegawa or ex-champ Veeraphol Sahaphrom. Caruso dropped to 14-4-2. source: supersport zone
