The popular and crowd-pleasing Corrales was known for putting it all on the line. Fistic aficionados loved the dedication of the two-division world champion who spent much of his life in Sacramento, Calif., and the last couple years in Las Vegas.
Corrales will be remembered as an introspective, articulate, philosophical and thoughtful human being who always opened his heart and mind for people to see. The tribute shows Corrales’ sensitive and humorous sides that combined to make him one of boxing’s most cherished individuals.
“Chico” was a permanent fixture on the network, including his classic first battle against Castillo that will go down as one of the greatest fights in the sport’s storied history.
The 29-year-old Corrales died in a motorcycle accident on May 7, 2007, exactly two years after his historic battle with Castillo. The consummate warrior, Corrales compiled a record of 40-5, 33 KOs.
