Diego "Chico" Corrales, who was tragically killed in a motorcycle accident Monday night in Las Vegas, was a mainstay on SHOWTIME. A two-division world champion, the popular, crowd-pleasing Corrales fought 10 times on the network, nine times on SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING and once on "ShoBox: The New Generation.''
"This is a horrible tragedy and a very sad day for boxing," said Ken Hershman, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Showtime Sports and Event Programming. "We lost not only one of the most determined and competitive fighters of a generation, but also a friend. Having worked with him for many years, on so many important events for the sport, I can say that Diego was a gentleman and a champion both in and out of the ring.Â
"Fans always knew what to expect when Corrales entered the ring. In all his fights on the network, Diego consistently delivered the most exciting fights. His heart and determination could not be matched.
"All of us at Showtime send our thoughts, prayers and deepest sympathy to the Corrales family."
