Colombian bantamweight to appear on ShoBox
PRESS RELEASE: Gary Shaw announced the signing of undefeated bantamweight Yonnhy Perez to an exclusive promotional contract. Perez (12-0, 9 KOs), will be co-promoted by Gary Shaw Productions and Thompson Boxing Promotions. Â
A native of Cartagena, Colombia, Perez , with 240 amateur fights to his credit, was a Colombian national amateur champion for four consecutive years before turning pro in 2005. He fought most of his amateur bouts while serving a seven-year hitch in the Colombian Army, from age 17 to 24. Now based in Santa Fe Springs, Calif., Perez is trained by Danny Zamora.
Â
"Yonnhy has a lot of talent and a lot of power at 118 pounds and 115 pounds," said Shaw. "He knocked out a very experienced fighter in Samuel Lopez in the first round and that told me a lot. I think the 115 and 118 pound divisions are in for a rude awakening with Yohnny Perez on the prowl."
Â
Perez, who is already 4-0 with 3 KOs this year, returns to the ring on September 7, 2007Â at Chumash Casino Resort in Santa Ynez, Calif., where he will open up the broadcast of "ShoBox: The New Generation" on Showtime.
