Matchroom's Eddie Hearn has announced that his company has signed three-division champion Shakur Stevenson of New Jersey to a promotional contract. Stevenson is the reigning WBC lightweight champion and for years had been under contract to Top Rank. With the signing, Stevenson is expected to fight former 130-pound title holder Joe Cordina in Saudi Arabia on October 12th (on the same show where Artur Beterbiev and Dimitri Bivol unify the world light heavyweight championship). Hearn tweeted, "You’ve heard me say for years just how special this young man is and that was even before signing him! I believe Shakur Stevenson is a generational great. 27 years old, three-division world champion and he’s hardly out of first gear. Welcome to the team champ. Let’s work!"
