Boxingtalk salutes former WBC junior middleweight champion Sergio "The Latin Snake" Mora, who announced his retirement on his fortieth birthday: "December 4th 2020. It’s my (gulp) birthday. It’s been a unforgettably miserable year that I might as well make it official: I retire." The announcement was more of a formality, as Mora hasn't fought since early 2018 and is a successful broadcaster with a regular gig on DAZN. Mora goes out with a record of 29-5-2 and a career with two huge highlights: winning the first Contender reality series in 2005 by defeating Peter Manfredo and then the WBC junior middleweight championship against the great Vernon Forrest in 2008. Mora lost an immediate rematch toForrest, unfortunately costing him a lucrative fight vs. Oscar De La Hoya that was all but signed if he had beaten Forrest a second time. Still, it was a great career for Mora and Boxingtalk wishes him continued success as a broadcaster.
