Senator Reid reportedly accepted free boxing tix

Possible ethical violation due to federal legislation?

The Associated Press is reporting that Nevada senator Harry Reid, who was instrumental in killing Senator John McCain's proposed national boxing commission, accepted free tickets to three major boxing matches in Las Vegas at a time when he was advancing his own legislation that would have benefited the Nevada Athletic Comission in comparison to McCain's proposal.  The Senate Ethics manual discourages senators from accepting this type of multiple gifts. Senator McCain has also attended boxing matches but the Associated Press reported that McCain reached into his pocket for $1400 to pay for the tickets. "I'm not Goodie Two Shoes. I just feel these events are nothing I did wrong," Reid told the Associated Press. McCain has been trying to clean up boxing for several years, but Reid has helped blocked the passage of any new laws after taking political contributions from Don King. -Scott Shaffer
