Scott to Johnson: Either you're the man or you're not

PRESS RELEASE: In a play on words, the old adage "Watch what you wish for" came back to bite prospect Kevin 'Kingpin' Johnson (14-0-1, 6 KOs) following a recent post-win challenge issued to Philadelphia?s Malik Scott (27-0, 10 KOs).

In negotiations between the two fighter camps, Team Johnson did an apparent ?about-face? as their financial demands far exceeded the customary budget for a ShoBox event, normally a ploy to act as if you are willing, when in fact you are not.

What made this challenge from Johnson -- issued in a Star Boxing press release following Johnson?s first-round knockout of 12-18-1 journeyman Curtis Taylor four nights ago ? raise a few eyebrows when read by Scott?s trainer Joe Goossen was the fact that the negotiations for this bout broke down and culminated several weeks ago.

?Either you?re the man or you?re not. Malik Scott understands that and the dollars available on ShoBox, but was obviously willing to prove it against Johnson,? Goossen Tutor matchmaker Tom Brown declared.  ?Once you price yourself out, it is a resounding statement of thanks, but no thanks.  I can respect that.  But don?t call Malik out after this charade.  That?s Boxing 101, for the rookies!?

So Brown continues the search for Scott?s opponent on May 4, which is headlined by a big heavyweight 10-round fight between ?Fast? Eddie Chambers (28-0, 16 KOs) and Dominick ?The Southern Disaster? Guinn (28-4-1, 19 KOs).  Another unbeaten Goossen Tutor heavyweight, Cristobal ?Nightmare? Arreola (19-0, 17 KOs) is also slated to see action.
