Savarese wins an easy one in Houston

Pongsaklek Wongjongkam TKO7 Tomonobu Shimizu... Pongsaklek Wongjongkam, who deserves to be included in G. Leon's pound-for-pound top twenty, retained his WBC flyweight championship by stopping Japanese challenger, Tomonobu Shimizu in Thailand's Saraburi province. Pongsaklek bloodied Shimizu and then knocked him down in round seven before winning by technical knockout. His victory improved his record to 64-2, with 33 knockouts, while Shimizu is now 10-2. The champion hasn't lost since 1996, and that loss was avenged. source: yahoo! boxing

Lou Savarese TKO1 Matt Hicks... Former heavyweight contender Lou Savarese continues to remain active in hopes of one last big payday. On Thursday in Houston, Savarese knocked Matt Hicks down twice in the first round, leading to a referee's stoppage after about two and a half minues of action. The 41-year-old Savarese improved to 46-6, which includes 3 straight wins since back-to-back losses to Kirk Johnson and Leo Nolan. Hicks drops to 10-2.
