Leon's pound-for-pound top twenty, retained his WBC flyweight championship by stopping Japanese challenger, Tomonobu Shimizu in Thailand's Saraburi province. Pongsaklek bloodied Shimizu and then knocked him down in round seven before winning by technical knockout. His victory improved his record to 64-2, with 33 knockouts, while Shimizu is now 10-2. On Thursday in Houston, Savarese knocked Matt Hicks down twice in the first round, leading to a referee's stoppage after about two and a half minues of action. The 41-year-old Savarese improved to 46-6, which includes 3 straight wins since back-to-back losses to Kirk Johnson and Leo Nolan. Hicks drops to 10-2.
