Sauerland Event won a WBA purse bid in Panama today for the right to promote a heavyweight eliminator between Nicolay Valuev and Sergei Lyakhovich. Sauerland's winning bid totaled US$671,414, beating out Don King Production's bid of $651,000. Valuev is a former WBA champion who lost to Ruslan Chagaev, while Lyakhovich is a former WBO champion who lost to Shannon Briggs. The fight, which will determine the mandatory challenger to the undefeated Chagaev, is likely to be held in January or February. "We are very happy to have won the bid," Sauerland managing director Chris Meyer said. "The fight will probably take place in three months and is likely to be staged in Germany." Valuev is likely to train in Japan with his new coach Alexander Zimin, and then travel to Berlin for the final tune-up some six weeks before the showdown.  source: sauerland event-- REMEMBER WHERE YOU HEARD IT FIRST!!
