Late sub Carl Cockerham to face Jaidon Codrington
Press Release: Spanish Harlem’s Edgar Santana (21-2, 13 KOs) will square off against Harrison Cuello (12-5, 9 KOs) in the ten-round junior welterweight main event on at the Manhattan Center tomorrow night (Wednesday, June 20). Original headliner Jaidon Codrington (15-1, 11 KOs) will now face Carl Cockerham (12-13-3, 4 KOs), a late replacement for Omar Sheika, in a six round super middleweight affair. Sheika was a late scratch when it became apparent he wouldn't make weight. Also appearing on the DiBella Entertainment Broadway Boxing show, unbeaten super middleweight star James McGirt Jr., trained by his father Buddy McGirt, will also see action, against Delray Raines (9-2 with 5 KOs). Jose Varela (20-2 with 13 KOs) faces powerful Thomas Davis (11-4-2 with 7 KOs).
New York Golden Gloves welterweight champion Ronnie Vargas will make his pro debut, and Jose Varela, a stablemate of Miguel Cotto trained by Evangelista Cotto, are also on the card.
Santana, the Puerto Rican standout who has become a fixture on Broadway Boxing, has reeled off 16 consecutive victories, including 14 in a row in New York.
McGirt, Jr (15-0, 8 KOs) puts his unbeaten pro streak on the line when he takes on Delray Raines (9-2, 5 KOs) in a battle of super middleweights scheduled for eight rounds.
Varela (20-2, 13 KOs), a native of San Juan, PR, will battle Thomas Davis (11-4-2, 7 KOs) of Knoxville, TN in a junior middleweight eight-rounder.
The highly touted Vargas, fighting out of the Bronx, makes his pro debut in a four round welterweight contest against Richard Turner (0-1) of Warren, OH.
