Santana on Salita fight: "It won't go the distance!"

GL: Congrats on your recent victory, can you give us some thoughts on your performance? "I felt my performance was good, I felt strong, I felt pretty confident. I went out there and did what I had to dp to score a third round knockout, so it was a good night."

GL: We're always talking about when you're going to take it to the next level, now I hear you could be fighting Dmitriy Salita on HBO in February, what can you tell us about that?

Edgar Santana: "I heard that and my manager Ernesto Dallas told my that before my last fight. I hear it's going to be sometime in February and I hope DiBella can make that happen."

GL: My understanding is that DiBella, HBO and everyone else is on board, it's just up to Dmitriy to accept the fight.

ES: "We already told DiBella we want so I guess that's true, we're just waiting to hear from Dmitriy."

GL: Are you and Dmitriy good friends?

ES: "He's a good dude and we used to train together and whatever, but business is business and this is boxing. We're at the same weight and I knew that someday we could fight, so sometimes when you got to fight you got to fight and that friend shit goes out the window. If we're friends we could be friends after the fight, but once that bell rings we're not friends."

GL: How does a fight with you and Salita play out?

ES: "It should be pretty interesting and I think it's a fight the fans want to see. But I think it's the kind of fight that would be a lot easier for me than people think."

GL: Do you think a fight with you and Salita goes the distance?

ES: "Nah, I don't think it would go the distance."

GL: Is there anything you'd like to say in closing?

ES: "Keep tuned into Boxingtalk for all the latest and hopefully y'all will be able to watch my next fight on HBO against Dmitriy Salita, it's just up to him to take the fight. The winner of that fight would boost their career and I already told them I'll take it, so it's on him and we'll see what happens."
