Santana headlining on Broadway Boxing

DiBella Entertainment will bring boxing fans a star-studded evening of New York’s premier pugilists as Broadway Boxing Presented by Turning Stone Resort and Casino returns to the Grand Ballroom at Manhattan Center on Friday night, May 19th. The stellar card is headlined by Spanish Harlem’s Edgar “El Chamaco” Santana (17-2, 12 KO’s), who squares off against Tomas Barrientes (27-9-1, 17 KO’s) of Mercedes, Texas in a 10 round junior welterweight bout.

Santana, a Puerto Rican star on the rise who is one of the most popular New York-based fighters, has reeled off 12 straight victories, including eight in a row on Broadway Boxing cards.

The night will also mark the return of Dash-DiBella Promotions’ Queens Super Middleweight Jaidon Codrington (9-1, 9 KO’s) in a six round fight. "The Don," regarded as one of the top super middleweight prospects in the game, had captured nine straight triumphs by knockout as a pro before he took a six month hiatus from the ring following a loss to fellow undefeated prospect Allan Green. Codrington is primed for a big return.

In addition to Santana and Codrington, some of the New York area’s best fighters are on the bill, including Emmanuel Clottey (23-6, 14 KO’s) of the Bronx, who takes on Costa Rica’s Franciso Campos (20-6-1, 12 KO’s) in an eight round junior welterweight match up. Also in action will be Staten Island’s Gary “Kid” Stark, Jr. (15-0, 8 KO’s) in an eight round featherweight bout. The unbeaten Stark is also promoted by Dash-DiBella Promotions.

Manhattan’s Juan Cabrera (4-0, 4 KO’s) will also see action as well as the Broadway Boxing debut of Bronx Irish favorite Maureen Shea (5-0, 3 KO’s).  Shea’s six round bout will mark the first female fight in the history of Broadway Boxing.

Since its inception in April 2004, Broadway Boxing has drawn some of the brightest stars in the sports and entertainment world to the fights. Some of boxing’s biggest names, including Jermain Taylor, Lennox Lewis, Zab Judah, Lou Duva, Emile Griffith, Jose Torres and Monte Barrett, have been in attendance. In addition, the likes of NBA Superstar Tracy McGrady, Academy Award Winner Hilary Swank, rappers Camron, Fat Joe, Foxy Brown and Ja Rule, along with Ashante, Jay Z, and Damon Dash, have all taken in a night of Broadway Boxing.
