Santa Cruz vs. Davis appears set for fall

According to boxing writer Mike Coppinger of The Athletic, Gervonta "Tank" Davis (pictured) and Leo Santa Cruz have agreed in principle for a fall clash at junior lightweight (130 pounds). Coppinger says he expects the bout to be broadcast on Showtime pay-per-view. Prior to the coronavirus pandemic, it looked like Santa Cruz-Davis was headed for Staples Center in Los Angeles. Davis appeared to confirm Coppinger's report by retweeting it and adding, "There you have it, see y’all in fall." Davis spent most of his career at 130 pounds but moved up to 135 for his last fight, a win ovder Yuriorkis Gamboa. He's had difficulties making weigh in the past, so there wil certainly be some questions about whether 130 is ideal for him. Santa Cruz has recently campaigned at 126 but in his last bout, he found a soft route to a WBA 130-pound belt, beating little known Miguel Flores.
