San Antonio (and Boxingtalk) salutes the memory of Robert "Pikin" Quiroga

This Saturday September 14th, the public is invited to participate in a celebration honoring the memory of Robert "Pikin" Quiroga. From San Antonio, Texas, Quiroga was a former IBF flyweight champion who's reign stretched from 1990 through 1993. His title defense against "Kid" Akeen Anifowoshe is a legendary war that was 1991's fight of the year. Quiroga was tragically murdered in 2004. The 20-year anniversary of his murder will be commemorated at Rosedale Park in San Antonio.

The event is free and open to the public.  Action starts at 3PM and ends at 11PM. Many celebrities set to be in attendance. The purpose of this event is to celebrate his legacy and showcase new local talent. Boxingtalk writer Christian Schmidt will be the announcer.

"The legend lives because of you," says event coordinator Epi Quiroga, the brother of the great champion.  The event will feature amateur boxing, food trucks, a motorcycle tribute ride, and a showing of "One Chance," a documentary about the champ's life.

"Pikin" was the first ever world champion from San Antonio boasting an impressive record of (20-2, 11 KOs).  His brutal and bloody twelve-round unanimous decision over then-undefeated Anifowoshe put the boxing world on notice and made Quiroga a legend in the Alamo City. Boxingtalk salutes the memory of Robert "Pikin" Quiroga.
