Sam disputes Holyfield claim, but wont fight him anyway

Press Release: Representatives of Sinan Samil Sam contacted Boxingtalk to dispute information published on this site regarding the a proposed but now tabled bout between Sam and Evander Holyfield is wrong. Holyfield told boxing that Sam was out because he demanded too much money. Sam's manager agrees the fight is off, but says money was not the issue. “There was never a problem about the money,” said Sinan-Manager Ahmet Öner. “What we could not accept was the date of November 11th and the country, Australia, of the bout.” Sinan's manager now believes that Evander Holyfield is afraid of boxing twelve rounds against Sam [Editor's note: Evander Holyfield fought Lennox Lewis and Mike Tyson twice each, Riddick Bowe and John Ruiz three times each, James Toney, Hasim Rahman, Michael Moorer twice, Michael Dokes, Chris Byrd, George Foreman, Ray Mercer, Buster Douglas and the list goes on and on. If Evander was scared of Sam, it would be a sudden change of character, to say the least]. “I am sure Evander Holyfield is in fact not interested in a bout with Sinan. By the way an offer of 1.5 Million Dollars to fight in Germany has also been refused by the Holyfield Management," said Ahmet Öner, who will debut as a promoter on September 9, 2006 in Hamburg, Germany. Oner says he is always looking for good American fighters to come to Germany and face Sam, who holds the WBC International title.
