Salita held to draw in Atlantic City

Dmitriy Salita D8 Ramon Montano...Dmitriy Salita and Ramon Montano fought to a draw in Atlantic City on Saturday. Salita, who has made a habit of starting slow, was knocked down twice and hurt in the first round but he gathered himself, persevered, and won enough of the remaining seven rounds to earn a draw against Montano, 9-2-2. The official scores were 75-75, 75-74 Salita and 76-74 Montano. The first knockdown came when Salita was caught with a counter right hand. Although the result wasn't what his team was looking for, Salita's lawyer Kurt Emhoff said afterwards he was proud of Salita's effort to pull out the draw after being hurt early. Salita, now 24-0-1, was making a rare appearance on a Saturday night, his first in nearly two years. Because he is an observant Orthodox Jew, he does not fight on Friday nights or Saturdays until well after the sun goes down. --Scott Shaffer
