Salita gets 15 stitches to close cut!

Dmitriy Salita was in a good mood as he prepared to celebrate the Jewish high holidays, which began on Friday night. On Wednesday, Salita defeated respected Francisco Campos by unanimous decision over ten rounds, but he suffered a bad cut over his eye near the end of the ninth round. The gash required an immediate trip to a plastic surgeon, who needed 15 stitches to close it. Salita was the clear winner of the bout, by scores of 98-92 and 97-93 (twice). Salita got hit with a solid shot in the second round but said the headbutt hurt more. "With a headbutt, you feel a thudding type of thing, its bone on bone." The doctor told the junior welterweight he might be able to return to sparring in as little as six weeks, so Salita hopes he can return to the ring by December. For the next week or so, Salita will be observing first the Jewish New Year and then Yom Kippur, the day of atonement for the sins of the past year.  "I want to wish all my Jewish fans a happy new year, and thanks to all my fans for their support." --Scott Shaffer
