Salido-Avila December 14 in Chicago

Edited Press Release: On Friday, December 14, 2007 at Cicero Stadium near Chicago, featherweight contender Orlando Salido will return to Chicago to face Hector Julio Avila in a ten rounder. Salido, 28-9-2, ended a drug suspension with an eight-round decision over Marty Robbins at Chicago’s Congress Theater on September 14th.  The 27 year old Salido’s eleven year career includes wins over Rogers Mtagwa, Cesar Soto, Radford Beasley, Carlos Gerena and Lamont Pearson. He is currently ranked #3 by the IBF.  Heavy handed Avila, 39-3 with 36KOs, of the Dominican Republic, is making his Chicago debut. He has lost only once in the last seven years, at one point running off eleven in a row, ten by knockout.

The co-main event will pit Miguel Huerta of Mexico City against Puerto Rican Daniel Alicea in a ten-round lightweight bout.  Huerta, 25-8-1 (17 KOs) knocked out Antonio Ramirez on December 22, 2006 in his previous battle at Cicero Stadium. Huerta is coming off a decision win over Efren Hinojosa on August 30th in Houston, Texas. The veteran Alicea brings a record of  30-6-2 (22 KOs) into the battle with Huerta.

 
The undercard includes world ranked light heavyweight Tavoris Cloud, bantamweight fan favorite Francisco Rodriguez, middleweight Victor Polyakov and heavyweight Carl Davis.  Also appearing is former amateur standout Francisco Tafoya and newcomers Eric Estrada and Greg Dziubek.

The Master of Ceremonies will be Lupe Contreras, the internationally recognized voice of Latino boxing. Â
