PRESS RELEASE: New York- Star Boxing announced today that Delvin Rodriguez has challenged the “No-Contest” result that was declared after the fight between Delvin Rodriguez 20-2-1 and Keenan Collins 12-2-1 was stopped between the second and third rounds. The fight was aired live on ESPN2's “Friday Night Fights” from the Bronx, NY on August 24, 2007. A right hand from Rodriguez appeared to open a deep cut above the left eye of Keenan Collins in the second round but referee, Eddie Claudio announced the cut was caused by an accidental head butt and the fight was ruled a "No Contest."
A review of the fight footage seemed to confirm that the cut was caused by a clean right hand from Rodriguez, and that during the entire fight heads didn't. Delvin Rodriguez' camp has requested a hearing, with the NYSAC, which is scheduled for Tuesday, September 11, 2007.
“The only just result here would be to declare the bout a TKO win for Delvin. Boxing needs to continue on the path of credibility and correcting injustices in the sport is crucial to its success,” said Rodriguez's promoter Joe DeGuardia.
