Ruiz hires Sauerland!

Edited Press Release: Former heavyweight titleholder John “The Quiet Man” Ruiz has signed a management contract with Wilfried Sauerland.  The German-based Sauerland is known as a promoter in America, but German law differs from American law in that it permits the same person to serve as a boxer’s manager and promoter at the same time. According to a Sauerland press release, Ruiz sought out Sauerland and asked him take on job of managing him after a fall out with his former manager, Norman Stone. “For me,” said Sauerland, “it´s a great obligation to get such a proposal from a repeated heavyweight world champion,” Sauerland explains. “And I´ll try to cope with the task.” Ruiz twice held the WBA heavyweight title but was never generally recognized as the true world champion. In his last fight, he lost the title to Nikolay Valuev in a close bout. Sauerland will work together as a co-manager with Ruiz’s longtime attorney, Anthony Cardinale. Ruiz will continue to be promoted by Don King.
