According to reports on Yahoo! Deportes, flyweight Ruben  Contreras remains stable but in critical condition, in a Los Angeles after having undergone brain surgery on May 28. The boxer's wife, nancy madlonado, is at his side, and his doctor, David Duarte has expressed optimism. Contreras suffered serious injuries in a fight that was part of Julio Cesar Chavez’ farewell event which took place at The Staples Center in Los Angeles.  Doctors at the hospital stated that the condition of Contreras, who comes from the city of Juarez, Mexico, was stable after having undergone emergency surgery for serious internal bleeding of the brain. Contreras, age 32, was a last minute substitute for Alejandro Moreno and was stopped in the sixth round against Brian Viloria.  Katreena Salgado, a doctor at the Central Medical Hospital in California, confirmed that Contreras is in a medical induced coma until his recuperation reaches a more satisfactory state.
