Dre, DJ and D, member, of 3D, whose first album hit the stores on June 27, will perform at the Staten Island Day Camp on Friday, August 18 at 1:00 p.m. The camp is located at 2800 Victory Blvd. Later in the evening, 3D will host an autograph signing at FYE at 2655 Richmond Ave, Staten Island. Dre and DJ are twin sons of five-time world champion Roy Jones, Jr. and “D” is his nephew.
3D’s Background
Dre and DJ are twins and D is their cousin. While in the recording studio working on some material, the three decided to form a group, something they felt was dangerous, determined and divine, hence 3D. The 3D moniker also works well since their first names all start with D.
In order for a team to win, each player has to know his role and execute it well. 3D, a remarkable teen-aged rap trio made up of twins DeAndre pka “Dre,” DeShawn pka “DJ” and their cousing Dyllon pka “D,” does just that on its dynamic debut album, Boys Will Be Boys.
Dre is the laid-back rapper with stunning lyrics, DJ brings excitement and energy to the crew and D has an animated yet grounded approach that is somewhere in the middle and balances each of his partners-in-rhyme.
In Boys Will Be Boys, it is obvious that this Pensacola, Florida-based group knows how to make music that fans of all ages will enjoy. “We like to do whatever it takes to have fun, just like our album title, Boys Will Be Boys,” D explains. “Our album is a lot of fun stuff because that’s what we’re about. We’re about enjoying the moment and living in the moment.”
That sentiment is best displayed on “What Yall Come To Do,” a lively cut inspired by the group’s love for basketball. Then, on “Got It Good,” 3D reworks the classic rap song "Top Billin" from Audio 2 into a hyper declaration of their optimistic outlook on life, “It’s a crunk song about how we’re living and what we’re doing,” DJ says. “Instead of making it lazy, we’re getting crunk and it makes people feel like they’re teen-agers.”
3D translates that energy into their stunning stage show, which is remarkably polished for a teen act. That’s why they recorded “My Show,” a testament to their impressive performance capabilities. “When we’re on stage, it’s my show and I’m ready to perform for everybody,” Dre declares. “I’m going to do my thing and do my best to make it the best it can be.”
In addition to the impressive lyricism of 3D, Boys Will Be Boys hits hard because of producers Lumberjack, KuDolla and Shonta guide the group during the recording process. “They are great people,” Dre says. "Very patient and always ready to help us out.”
Truth be told, it is the bond 3D has that makes the group’s music so potent.
3D already knows the significance of their uplifting, profanity-free music. “I think people will respond more to that type of thing than hearing depressing stuff,” D says. “We’re trying to set an example for other little kids and have fun, like in ‘3D Party’," Dre adds. “We like to rap about being respectful, having fun and playing sports and we want to make people feel welcome,” DJ adds.
