Roy Jones Jr: Pavlik Turned Me Down at 170lbs

“Calzaghe will be nothing special on fight night”

At a Roy Jones Jr. press conference Saturday evening, the former middleweight, supermiddleweight, lightheavyweight and heavyweight champion claimed that Top Rank and Team Pavlik turned down a fight which was to take place at a catch weight of 170lbs.  Interestingly enough, Hopkins-Pavlik was also at a catch weight of 170lbs.  Roy Jones Jr. claims the fight was discussed after he defeated Felix Trinidad earlier this year.  Roy Jones went on to discuss the Joe Calzaghe fight by saying, “Joe Calzaghe is a special fighter because he throws 1000 punches a fight but you won’t see him do anything special against me.”  Roy Jones Jr. and Joe Calzaghe will be fighting November 8th at Madison Square Garden on HBO PPV.  Early reports are that the gate is doing well and a 24/7 show will certainly help PPV sales.  When Roy was asked who was the most exciting fighter to watch, he jokingly replied, Manny Ramirez.  The press conference was basically 30 minutes of one liners as the former champion had the press room in sticthes.
