Jones looking at Johnson rematch if Taylor fight falls through
Last night former pound for pound king Roy Jones Jr told BoxingTalk.com, "Hanshaw is no big name fighter. Nobody knows who Hanshaw is. I'm not out here to make a name, I have a name. I'm out here trying to make the biggest fights to prove why I still got it. If I get the opportunity to fight Joe Calzaghe over Anthony Hanshaw, I'd be an idiot not to take it. What kind of man would want to fight a guy who's not known instead of fighting one of the best super middleweights ever? I'd rather fight Joe Calzaghe over Anthony Hanshaw."
"Now if Calzaghe doesn't come through, which is doesn't look like it's going to happen because there's a whole lot of stuff coming out now about Roy's not going to promote the fight or Roy's not going to do that. Why wouldn't Roy promote a fight with Joe Calaghe when it's the biggest fight available to him?
GL: I don't know why anyone would question you promoting anything considering how you've been on BoxingTalk more often than ever before. Roy Jones Jr: "You feel me? But they're saying Roy this and that and everybody got excuses on why they don't want to let me have Joe Calzaghe now, but they'll let him fight Peter Manfredo. What the problem is? So I said how bout this then, I'll take the United States money and you take England. Take all of the money from over there, we'll fight at two in the morning and I'll take all the money from the United States. But if I don't promote it in the United States then I ain't going to make no money right or wrong? It sounds like they don't really want to fight me. If Joe Calzaghe doesn't want to fight me, Murad will be in touch with Gary Shaw and we will fight Anthony Hanshaw. That's not a problem at all. Tell them to hold their horses. Nothing has changed, but if I can fight Joe Calzaghe over Anthony Hanshaw, I'm going to do that all day long. If I can't get Joe Calzaghe then Anthony Hanshaw is my next best fight so it don't matter to me. It ain't about no name or who it is, what it's about for me is fighting the best possible fights I can make at the time. If I can get Joe CalZaghe I'm taking him everyday over Hanshaw. It's just that simple. I'm fighting someone in July"
GL: How much longer...RJJ: (cutting in) "If they ain't made up they mind by Friday, I know they're telling me no, they don't want to fight and I'm going to go and fight Hanshaw. The feeling I'm getting now is that Joe Calzaghe don't want to fight and I'm going to end up fighting Anthony Hanshaw.
GL: I spoke with Leon Margules from Warriors Boxing earlier today and he'd love to know your position on a Glen Johnson rematch?RJJ: "I love that and that's all day long. That's definitely in my make up. It's most definitely in the making."
GL: Where does he fit on your things to do list?RJJ: "Very high."
GL: High enough that if something with Taylor doesn't come to fruition following your July fight that it could be something to expect before the end of the year?RJJ: "I'd be ready to fight him in September."
GL: Something tells me that fight wouldn't be difficult to make.RJJ: "Not difficult at all. Glen takes fights."
GL: Is there anything you'd like to say in closing?RJJ: "I love this game, I was built for this game and I was made for this game." (laughs)
