Prefight
The challenger, Oscar De La Hoya, comes out first looking confident and ready to enter the danger zone. It's a packed house and it's clear that the crowd is there to see The Golden Boy. Mayorga enters next. The champion looks a little anxious...perhaps in awe of the magnitude of the event.

Round 1
Surprisingly, Mayorga comes out cautious. Mayorga fires a right hand. Hard right hand lands for De La Hoya. Mayorga lands a right cross of his own. Mayorga swinging wildly. Good body shot lands for Mayorga, but he's missing with a lot. Double jab and right hand misses for Mayorga. Woooooooooo...a straight right and a left hook by De La Hoya drops Mayorga. Wooooo...a pattented De La Hoya left hook just floors him. Mayorga is up, but he looks shocked. Mayorga swings wildly. De La Hoya just walks him down. Right hand by Mayorga is blocked. De La Hoya still stalking. Right, left combo lands for De La Hoya and Mayorga grabs on. De La Hoya looks confident...walks Mayorga down and lands some hard body shots. Big right-left combo lands for De La Hoya. Mayorga fires back a right of his own. Mayorga swnging wildly again, but most of those punches blocked. Big round for De La Hoya.

Round 2
Mayorga on the retreat now. They trade left hooks. De La Hoya lands another left hook. De La Hoya walking him down. They trade jabs. De La Hoya's handspeed giving Mayorga problems. Two jabs lands for De La Hoya. Mayorga lands a left hook. Right to the body and the head lands for Mayorga. De La Hoya lands a left to the body. Jab lands for De La Hoya as he continues to walk Mayorga down. Hard right cross lands for De La hoya. Another hard right followed by a left hook and a right lands for De La Hoya. Mayorga swings wildly and misses. De La Hoya landing a lot of combos. Counter left lands for De La hoya. Round to De La Hoya.

De La Hoya 20 Mayorga 17

Round 3
De La Hoya continues to walk Mayorga down. Mayorga looks a lot slower now...starting to push his punches. Mayorga swings wildly and misses. De La Hoya lands a right. De La Hoya being cautious, but continues to walk him down. Right hand to the body lands for Mayorga....woooo, but De La Hoya lands a big uppercut. Mayorga retreats. Left hook to the body lands for Mayorga...and a right hand to the body lands as well. De La Hoya laands the jab. Wooooooo...now a big uppercut lands flush for Mayorga, but Oscar takes it well. They trade at the end of the round. Better round for Mayorga, but he looks like he's starting to fade.

Round 4
They trade jabs, but both men being a little more careful now. Woooo...huge right hand lands for De La Hoya...two hard body shots follow that up and Mayorga backs up. Mayorga tries to work the body himself, but his punches don't have much on them....at least not as much as De La Hoya's punches. Oscar continues to walk him down....lands a jab. They trade body shots. De La Hoya measure shim with a right and lands a left hook. Nady warns Mayorga about hitting to the back of the head. Mayorga lands a hard right hand, but De La Hoya just eats it. De La Hoya lands a nice 1-2. Hard body shots land for De La Hoya...followed by a straight right. Mayorga lands an uppercut. Good round for De La Hoya as he continues to stand his ground and trade.

Round 5
Mayorga fires a five punch combo, but lands nothing. De La Hoya just walks him down. De La Hoya lands a left hook. They clash heads. A brief break in the action as Nady inspects both fighters. Hard left hook lands for De La Hoya...and another. Mayorga on the retreat now. De La Hoya just walking Mayorga down and imposing his will fairly easily. Another hard left hook lands for De la hoya. Mayorga just covers up as De La Hoya lands five more punches. Mayorga just shakes it off like they had no affect. Jab lands for De La Hoya. And another. Left hook lands again for De La Hoya and the crowd cheers. Quick right hand lands for De La Hoya...easy work. Mayorga tries to rough him up with some shots to the back of the head to end the round. Another great round for the Golden Boy.

Round 6                             
Mayorga fires a 1-2 that's blocked. De La Hoya just misses with the left hook. Jab lands for De La Hoya...and another. Right to the body lands for Mayorga. Straight right lands for Mayorga, but De La Hoya eats it again. De La Hoya lands a nice five punch combo..and another big left hook has Mayorga in trouble. Down he goes. Mayorga takes the count, but he's back up. De La Hoya comes back in to finsh him off. De La Hoya throwing everything at him...Mayorga eating a lot....Mayorga's down again. That's it. Nady has seen enough. The Golden boy is back.
