Round By Round: Byrd -vs- Williamson

Prefight
DaVarryl Williamson enters first. Might I say he looks rather dapper in that red and white Boxingtalk shirt. Woooooo! A slow walk to the ring for Touch of Sleep. A VERY slow walk to the ring for Williamson. Byrd enters next. Looks peaceful as he enters to a religious song.

Round 1
And there's the bell. Williamson starts with a jab. Byrd fires his. Both men start off cautious. Byrd lands a left to the body. Williamson fires a jab to the body that's blocked. Byrd beginning to jab more. Lands a left to the body. Neither man realling doing anything. The crowd starting to get a little ansy. Both men still being cautious. Still nothing going on. The crowd begins to boo. Williamson fires a right that's blocked. Byrd throws a left to the body...Williamson looking to counter. Wow...what a boring round. Round to Byrd for landing about 3 punches to Williamson's 1.

Round 2

Both men still cautious. Williamson attempts to work the body, but Byrd covers up. Byrd jabs. Williamson looking to sucker Byrd in for a counter. Byrd fires a left to the body. The ref stops the action and has a talk with both men to tell them to start fighting. Wow...I appreciate that, but does he really have the right to tell them that? The action...or non-action I should say...continues. Still nothing from either man. The crowd boos. Byrd fires the jab as Williamson moves away. Williamson lands a right that's partially blocked. Round to Byrd...but neither really deserved it.

Round 3
They meet at the center. Williamson jabs...Byrd jabs. Williamson lands a left to the body. Byrd lands a jab. Byrd attempts to get more aggressive. Nothing from Williamson. The crowd boos again. Williamson misses a left hook. They clinch. 1 second...let me switch over to PPV to see if Ward has won his fight yet. Yep...looks like a knockout for Ward. Okay...back to this fight. Ah...more boos from the crowd. (Note: just kidding...I was watching the Ward fight on Picture In Picture). Round to Byrd, but you're really not missing much.

Round 4
Again...the ref talks to both men and tells them to pick up the action. Williamson jabs. Byrd stands his ground and lets Williamson get in closer. Byrd lands a left to the body. Williamson retreats. Byrd lands a hook. Byrd posing in the center of the ring. Williamson doing absolutely nothing. Oh...he lands a jab. They trade jabs. Byrd lands some hooks inside. Byrd lets his hands go and lands a 3-punch combo against the ropes. Byrd lands a hook and gets a little more aggressive at the end of the round. Round to Byrd.

Round 5

Williamson doubles up on the jab. Williamson lands a jab. Williamson throwing a lot of jabs now. Keeping Byrd at bay a little better. Williamson lands a right. The first big right he lands. Byrd takes it okay. Williamson back to jabbing. Byrd tries to work the body in the corner. Williamson lands a left. Byrd lands a right hand. Williamson lands a jab and dances away. Byrd just poses at him in the center of the ring. Byrd lands a big hook to end the round. Williamson's best round, but I think Byrd took it at the end.

Round 6
Williamson getting more aggresive now. The crowd begins to chant...."Fight! Fight! Fight!" Byrd gets a little more aggresive as well. Williamson lands a jab. Byrd lands a jab to the body. They trade jabs. Byrd lands a right that's partially blocked. Williamson lands the next right. Byrd answers with a 1-2 combo. Byrd moves inside and works the body. The crowd boos. Byrd attempts to get inside and rough him up more. The crowd is unimpressed and boos some more. Round to Byrd.

Round 7

Williamson lands a jab. Williamson lands a right to the body...Byrd lands a left to the head. Oooh...Byrd lands a strong, short left hook. Williamson fires the jab and retreats. Wow...in between rounds, Marc Ratner went to both corners and warned them that if they do not start fighting, they might get their purses withheld. Byrd takes a break on the ropes and Williamson start to do work. Lands some jabs. Williamson lands another nice jab. Williamson getting more aggressive now, but the crowd is still unimpressed and boos some more. Good round for Williamson. He might be able to win if he just keeps throwing the jab.

Round 8
Wiliamson lands a jab. Byrd lands a right to the body. Byrd lands a right. Byrd lands a jab. Another jab lands for Byrd and they clinch. This looks more like a sparring session. Williamson lands a hard left hook to the body. Williamson lands a jab. The crowd boos. Williamson touches Byrd with a jab. Williamson retreats. Lands a jab as Byrd follows. Byrd misses a combo. Byrd lands a big left at the end of a boring round. Round to Williamson.

Round 9

Williamson working the jab. Byrd retreats to the ropes. Williamson lands a short right to the body. Byrd works his way back to the center of the ring. Lands a left. Williamson retreats. Byrd attempts to work him on the inside. Lands a right. Byrd lands another quick right. Williamson lands a jab. Williamson lands the jab as Byrd just poses. Byrd plays peak-a-boo behind the glvoes, but eats a jab. 10 seconds left...Byrd tries to steal the round, but it's not enough. This boring round goes to Williamson. See...this is why we still have Mike Tyson fans.

Williamson back to the jab. Byrd tries to get inside. Lands a short hook. Byrd lands a hard right cross...maybe the best punch of the night (of course, there haven't been very many punches). Williamson retreats. They clinch and throw punches to the back of each other's heads. Byrd lands the jab. Williamson retreats. Lands a jab. Byrd lands a left. Byrd's getting just a tad bit more aggressive. Williamson lands a jab. These rounds absolutely suck to score because neither man is doing anything. Round to Byrd though for landing a few clean shots.

Round 11

The championship rounds...I guess. Williamson jabs. Byrd poses. Lands a 1-2 to the body. Williamson lands the jab. Byrd lands a hook....Byrd getting more aggressive. Lands a hook. Williamson retreats. Byrd poses and Williamson catches him with a right hand. No damage. Williamson lands a jab. Byrd lands a quick combo against the ropes. Byrd lands a right. Williamson lands a short right, but Byrd just pecked away at him on the ropes to win the round.

Thank goodness. The final round. They touch gloves. Williamson jabs. Williamson lands a nice uppercut...and another nice uppercut. Finally...some action. Byrd didn't even see those uppercuts. Byrd presses the action. Lands a right. Williamson slips in the corner. They trade rights. Byrd gets more aggressive, but lands nothing. Byrd lands a right. Williamson jabs. Byrd misses a wild hook. Round to Williamson.

Absolutely terrible. Terrible, terrible, terrible. Byrd plus a little Touch of Sleep will put you to sleep.
