Ronnie Shields On Charlo Not Being Enforced As Canelo Mandatory-"That's what we have courts for!"

Greg Leon: How's everything gone in preparation with Jermall Charlo and what can we expect to see from him on Saturday night? Ronnie Shields: "Jermall had a great camp and the time is upon us right now and he's feeling ready to go. Right now it's just a matter of waiting until Saturday. He feels good and we've got a really good game plan put together and he's going to look great on Saturday night." GL: Are you glad that Jermell won the other night because anything other than a win might have messed with Jermall mentally or broken his focus?
RS: "I was there for Jermell, Jermell is one of the best junior middleweights in the world and he showed that on Saturday night. There was no doubt in my mind that he was going to win. He is one of the best junior middleweights in the world and I think he's really hungry to get his title back, so when he get Tony Harrison back in the ring, I think there's going to be a different result."

GL: What do you know about Brandon Adams, what do you think of him as a fighter?

RS: "I think he's a really good fighter. He's a strong kid, he throws punches and he's not afraid to throw punches. You have to be ready for anything when you're fighting a guy who likes to throw punches. You have to be ready to counter all of the stuff they're throwing at you, we have prepared well for Brandon, we've done everything we possibly could have done and everything he throws at us we're going to have an answer for."

GL: Do you see this fight going the distance?

RS: "You know I don't get into that Greg, but I can tell you that we're prepared for twelve hard rounds. I truly believe that if Jermall catches him in the right spot, there's a possibility that he could end it sooner. Brandon Adams is one of those guys, whose offense is really, really good. We have prepared for that and we're going to be ready to get him out of there if he gives us the chance, but we're prepared to go the twelve round distance."

GL: He's known as the WBC interim middleweight champion, but it hasn't been so interim if there's another active champion. I know I ask you this all time, but when will this get rectified?

RS: (Laughs) "I have no idea to tell you the truth. The thing about it is, what we need to continue to do is focus on what's in front of us right now and not getting the shot at the real world title. Right now we're only focused on Brandon Adams. It's easy to see that we want to fight Canelo, but it takes two to tango. You can't make a fight with just one guy so what's the use of sitting back and worrying about something that's not really going to happen right now when we've got somebody else in front of us. If Canelo doesn't fight a unification bout he's going to have to fight us. This is what the WBC rules say, so if he doesn't want to fight us he's going to get stripped."

GL: Do you think the WBC is afraid to do the right thing here because of the money attached to Canelo Alvarez fights?

RS: "They made the rules, not us. Those rules have been in place before we became the mandatory, these are the rules that they wrote. These are their rules and we're expecting them to be followed. We're going to see if they honor their rules, but this is why we have a court system also, to make sure that the rules they wrote are enforced. Right now our focus isn't on Canelo Alvarez, it's on Brandon The Cannon Adams."

GL: Closing thoughts.

RS: "This is going to be a really exciting fight on Saturday night on Showtime. If you can't make it to Houston for the fights, make sure you're catching them all on Showtime."
