Rocky Balboa doing well at the box office

Sylvester Stallone's "Rocky Balboa" was the #3 grossing movie over the weekend, raking in a solid $12.5 million, for a total of $22.1 million since the sixth installment of the boxing series opened Wednesday. In the movie, Balboa comes out of retirement to battle the heavyweight champion, played by Antonio Tarver. Other boxing notables in the movie include a trio of HBO announcers, promoter Lou DiBella and journalists Bernard Fernandez, Brian Kenney and Boxingtalk's Bert Sugar. Boxing trivia buffs who want to impress their friends, take note, Stallone dug up the guy who played Spider Rico (he got knocked out by Rocky after a headbutt in the club fight that is the very first scene of Rocky I) and actually gave the Rico character several lines throughout the movie. It turns out the actor who played Rico in both Rocky I and VI was actually a respectable heavyweight from the 1970s named Pedro Lovell who fought two former champions, Ken Norton and Mike Weaver. -Scott Shaffer
