The proposed Irish middleweight championship showdown between champion Jim Rock and undefeated John Duddy scheduled for Las Vegas in August has been shelved it has been announced. Rock, from Dublin, was being lined up to put his title on the line against Derry-born Duddy in Nevada on August 10, 2006, but speaking from the Irish Ropes gym in New York City, Duddy's promoter Eddie McLoughlin said yesterday that the fight would not be going ahead. However McLoughlin is optimistic that a Rock vs. Duddy clash will get the green light for later this year and indicated that Dublin, not Vegas, could be the likely venue. Duddy is still due to fight in Las Vegas on August 10th and at another venue in the USA in early September against opponents yet to be announced. Duddy is also being lined up to face Yory Boy Campas at the Theatre Club in Madison Square Garden in New York City on September 29, 2006.
