Roach training Hawk

Press Release: The newest addition to Sycuan Ringside Promotions’ roster of boxers--undefeated 22-year-old light heavyweight Shawn Hawk--has relocated to Los Angeles and now is training with renowned veteran Freddie Roach. The strong and hard-hitting Hawk, from Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, has a record of 12-0 with 10 knockouts and is on course to be the most successful Native American boxer ever.

“This is exactly what Sycuan Ringside Promotions promised me, to move me to Los Angeles and let me work with a great trainer like Freddie Roach,” said Hawk.  “I’m more excited than ever to start advancing my career with Sycuan Ringside Promotions.”

“This is just the first step in helping give Shawn the tools he needs to develop his talent and, eventually, go all the way to the top,” said Glenn Quiroga, president of Sycuan Ringside Promotions

“It’s important we put Shawn in an environment in which he can take advantage of his skills and abilities and, in turn, maximize his potential,” said Scott Woodworth, vice president of Sycuan Ringside Promotions.

Hawk is managed by his father, Ray Hawk.

Roach also trains another Sycuan Ringside Promotions boxer, World Boxing Council super bantamweight champion Israel Vazquez.

Hawk, who turned pro during 2004, has stopped his past five opponents: Doug Kaluza in the second round July 29, 2006, in Boise, Idaho; Joe Evans in the second April 28 in New Town, N.D.; Shane Fisher in the second Oct. 27, 2005, in Worley, Idaho; Paul Purcell in the third July 8 in Boise; and Ken Schomber in the first June 16 in Worley.

Except for two bouts in North Dakota, all of Hawk’s first 12 fights were in Washington and Idaho.

Sycuan Ringside Promotions has many notable boxers in its stable, including Vazquez, welterweight world champion Carlos Baldomir, undefeated former World Boxing Organization junior featherweight champion Joan Guzman, International Boxing Federation lightweight interim champion Julio Diaz, World Boxing Association super bantamweight interim champion Celestino Caballero, former WBO bantamweight champion Mauricio Martinez and undefeated teenage lightweight Jorge Paez Jr.

Sycuan Ringside Promotions is led by Quiroga, executive vice president Willie Tucker and Woodworth.
