Rivera gains WBA version of jr middle title

In Worcester, Massachusetts, Jose Antonio Rivera won the WBA version of the 154-pound title, outpointing Alejandro Garcia with the help of five knockdowns. Rivera dropped Garcia, who entered the bout as the defending champion, with a right hand in the ninth round. Rivera finished the tenth  with another right that put Garcia on the canvas again. Rivera, 37-3-1, scored his fifth knockdown of the bout just before the final bell. He won by unusual scores of 116-106 (twice) and 114-107 from a trio of hometown judges. Garcia is now 25-2, with his only other loss coming against Travis Simms. source: Associated Press
