GL: What's the latest and greatest with Richard Gutierrez? "Nothing much. I went home and had a good time with my family and now I'm ready to fight anybody in the 147 pound division it doesn't matter to me. Right now I could be fighting on June 16, but I'm not 100% sure yet, I'll let you know when I am."
GL: Are you disappointed that after a solid showing on ESPN in your last fight that your next fight might not be televised in America?Richard Gutierrez: "Not really. I'm not sure if it's going to be on TV or not yet. I'm still waiting for my promoter to get back to me. I'm coming off a good performance, but there's a whole lot more I've got to show. 147 is hot right now, there's Berto, there's Williams and the champions. I feel like I should I could fight with anybody when I fought Joshua Clottey and you all just saw what he did to Corrales and how he should have gotten the decision over Margarito."
GL: Speaking of Corrales, is that a fight that interests you?RG: "If he stays at 147 pounds I'd love to make the fight, we can make that happen tomorrow. He's a banger and so am I so there's no way it wouldn't be a great fight. I know a lot of people are going to be scared of Clottey now, but I'd love that rematch. I'd stop him in the rematch. I'd fight any of them, Margarito, Mosley, Cotto, Judah it doesn't matter to me. The guy who I really want to fight is Andre Berto. He's been all over HBO lately and I want to show the network that there's no need to waste TV fights on amateurs."
GL: Amateurs?RG: "I don't think much of him. You know there's no way they're going to put him in there with Clottey, so I figure if I knock him off properly HBO will want to buy my rematch with Clottey, so it's just up to Berto to decide if he wants to fight a real contender."
GL: Something tells me you're going to hear something about those remarks, so we'll wrap this one short. Is there anything you'd like to say in closing?RG: "I just want to thank you for taking time to interview all fighters, I want to thank Boxingtalk and all of my fans for their support. I will be the welterweight champion of the world so get behind me now, I don't want to have to say I told you so."
