The United States' best medal prospect, world amateur champion Demetrius Andrade, had a close call, but squeaked by Kakhaber Jvania of the Georgian Republic 11-9 in a welterweight bout... In the same division, Dilshod Mahmudov of Uzbekistan, a 2004 Olympian, ousted a Moroccan opponent, Mehdi Khalsi, by a count of 11-3... The first set of light welterweight bouts is underway and American Javier Molina got a bad draw. Facing 2004 bronze medalist Boris Georgiev of Bulgaria, Molina got trounced 14-1... Another bronze medalist from 2004, Romanian Ionut Gheorge sent Puerto Rico's Jonathan Gonzalez Ortiz home, 21-4 Ortiz was considered to have an outside shot at a medal...
