Results From Tunica, Mississippi

Who said that you had to have big name fighters on a fight card to make it exciting?  Prize Fight Promotions put together a night of the prospects at Fitzgerald's Casino, in Tunica, Mississippi this Saturday night.

Jesus Menendez KO2 Carl McNickle... Starting the night off was Jesus Menendez of Houston, Texas. Menendez made his pro debut against Carl McNickle of Gulfport, MS.  Menendez would only need a few seconds into the second round to get the results that he was looking for.  The first round was a little bit shaky, the kid seemed excited, and his adrenaline may have gotten the better of him, but he quickly settled down.  The second round was all Menendez, as he found his balance, and started to sit down on his punches. McNickle (1-1) had no answer for the speed, and power of Menendez, this fight was over with at 34 seconds of the second round.

Ty Barnette KO3 Donnell Logan... The second bout of the evening saw junior welterweight Ty Barnette (11-0-1 with 8 KOs) stop Donnell Logan (9-13 with 4 KOs) inside three rounds.  Barnette has been out of the ring for awhile, and the first round showed that.  He came out a little bit rusty, but soon found his groove in the second round.  From the second round on, Barnette dominated with power, speed, and movement, and took the fight over.  At 2:59 of round three, Barnette landed a blistering shot that sent Logan to the canvas. Logan did not make it up before the ten count.

Chris Howard W4 Gerrardo Carillo The fight of the night went to the youngster from Crossville, Tennessee.  Chris Howard (2-0) electrified the crowd by dismantling a tough Gerrardo Carillo (0-2). Howard took everybody by surprise, including his opponent with his hand speed, and well placed five or six punch combinations throughout the entire fight.  Howard shot out of the gate from round one and didn't look back.  He took control of the fight, and was basically a punching machine for all four rounds.  Carillo was a respectable opponent, able to withstand the onslaught, but he was no match for Howard.  Howard swept all cards by 40-36.

Mark Davis W4 Alberto Amaro... Prizefight's Mark Davis (3-0 with 1 KO) dominated Alberto Amaro (1-1) through 4 rounds.  Davis' hand speed would be too much for Amaro, and the three judges all saw this bout as three rounds to one for Davis.

Charles Ellis W6 Arron Lyons...  The last night of the evening matched up two heavyweight's. Charles Ellis (5-0 with 4KOs) went up against Arron Lyons (7-2 with 6 KOs).  This fight would go back and forth, with both fighters ending up on the canvas at one time or another.  In the second round it would be Lyons that would taste the canvas, and he went down two times. Lyons would answer in the same round with a left hook that would send Ellis to the canvas as well.  The big man from Wichita (Ellis) started to fight tall as the fight wore on, and was able to get out of there with a unanimous decision.  Boxingtalk scored this fight 57-54 with the key second round being 9-8 for Ellis. The official scores of 59-55, 58-55 and 59-54 had Boxingtalk scratching our heads... how they came up with those scores with three different knockdowns in the first round?
