Press Release: It was time for grassroots professional boxing at the Pal Pal Gymnasium in the Pumwani district of Nairobi, Kenya, as Ashira Oure Promotions Inc. opened the doors to four non-title fights on the afternoon of Saturday August 4, 2007. Kenyan champion David Kiilu headlined with up-and-comers Samson Onyango, Wandera Ouma and “Jesse” James Kimori on the undercard. The card was sanctioned and supervised by the Kenyan Professional Boxing Commission.

After a very close loss to European champion Thomas Cyril of France earlier this year, junior lightweight David “Silent Danger” Kiilu won his second straight bout, outboxing Stephen Njunguna decisively over six one-sided rounds. Scores were 60-54, 60-54 and 60-54 as Kiilu improved his record to 27-8-2 with 14 KOs.
Samson Onyango TKO 4 Bob Harrison... Samson “The Hammer” Onyango boosted his pro record to 12-1 with 9 KOs. It was a boxing exhibition for three rounds until Onyango nailed Bob Harrison with a perfect uppercut to the jaw, and followed up on his defenceless opponent with hard body-punches to force the referee's intervention in round four. Harrison, a career journeyman albeit a former Kenyan title-challenger, had little to offer, while Onyango is probably the best domestic boxer in the super middleweight and light heavyweight categories.
Wandera Ouma D4 Stephen Esonga... Wandera Ouma, brother of former IBF world champion Kassim Ouma, was surprisingly only given a draw against the tough-as-nails local Stephen Esonga. Ouma, from Uganda, seemed to be in full control of his opponent, who never really came back with anything significant. Nevertheless, the judges scored the super middleweight bout 39-39, 39-39 and a just plain incompetent 40-40 (all rounds even). Ouma now stands at 5-0-1 with 5 KOs as a professional.
James Kimori TKO1 Seth Majanga... Welterweight prospect “Jesse” James Kimori moved up one division to fight Seth Majanga over four rounds at light middleweight, but quickly took his opponent out of commission. Kimori was on fire from the start, and nailed Majange with three consecutive clean punches, which prompted the referee to issue a count. After the eight-count, Kimori was again all over Majanga and landed two hard shots to stagger his foe before the third man in the ring stepped in and waved it over. Kimori is now 6-0 with 4 early victories.
