Television station KRQE in Albuquerque, New Mexico is reporting that the legendary but troubled Johnny Tapia has been hospitalized due to a suspected drug overdose. He is listed in critical condition afte being found unconscious and not breathing in a hotel room in Albuquerque. According to the television report, Tapia will be charged with felony cocaine possession charges. Tapia, whose life has been extraordinarily troubled since his youth, always gave everything he had inside the ring during a career that led to multiple world titles. Despite his troubles, Tapia remained a likeable figure to all who met him.  Last month, the 40-year old Tapia won a majority decision over Evaristo Primero in what was billed as his farewell fight. Boxingtalk joins his legions of fans in wishing Tapia a full recovery and a way to somehow chase his inner demons.
