Referee Russell Mora robs Joseph Agbeko of fair playing field!

Abner Mares wins title but Mora deserves a suspension

Abner Mares W12 Joseph Agbeko... Abner Mares won the IBF bantamweight title and Showtime's bantamweight tourney with a majority decision victory over Joseph Agbeko. In a fight taking place in Las Vegas, Mares was benefactor of one of the most biased refereeing seen in a world title fight in some time. Things got off to a bad start when referee Russell Mora gave Mares credit for a knockdown that in reality was an Agbeko slip in the first round. Throughout the course of the fight, Mares landed 20 low blows and should have been deducted at least one point, but Mora allowed him to continue abated.  Things got undescribably bad in the eleventh round, when Mares landed yet anoother blatant low blow. That act should have been a second point deduction from Mares, but Mora scored it a second knockdown. Official scores were 113-113 and 115-111 (twice), meaningif the low blows were penalized and knockdows scored properly, Agbeko might have retained his title. Mares fought hard and showed heart as always and it is truly a shame that Mora's incompetence becomes the story of the night. One can only hope that the Nevada commission follows New Jersey's lead, and indefinitely suspends Mora, the way New Jersey did a few weeks to three judges who stole a victory from Erislandy Lara. In a recent California fight, Julio Cesar Chavez got away with repeat low blows against Sebastian Zbik, and no action was taken, so we are not yet optimistic that justice will prevail. until we hear from Nevada commissioner Keith Kizer. source: showtime
