Rayonta Whitfield now 15-0

Tunica, Mississippi report

Rayonta Whitfield W6 Roberto Gomez... Prizefight Promotions continued its sellout streak at Fitzgeralds Casino & Hotel in Tunica, Mississippi over the weekend. Talented prospect Rayonta "Sting Ray" Whitfield (15-0 with 8 KOs) remained undefeated with a sixth-round decision against tough Roberto Gomez, 14-16-3. Gomez showed some heart, but was unable to answer Whitfield's speed, and over-all boxing ability.

MORE RESULTS FROM TUNICA...

Opening the show was junior welterweight Jesse Lara (11-1-1) against last-minute replacement in Rohan Menzo. Lara dominated the fight, knocking down Menzo two times, and then cruised to a fourth round TKO.

Prizefight's promising young prospect Ira Terry (6-0 with 4 KOs) squared off against Cornell Jackson (11-15-1) of St Louis. Terry ended Jackson's night at 2:35 seconds into the first round. As soon as the bell for the first round rang, Terry went into attack mode,  throwing right hand bombs that Jackson just couldn't handle. Terry continues to be someone to watch closely as a prospect in the near future.

Josiah Judah, younger brother of Zab Judah had a strong performance against a last minute replacement in Norman Johnson. Judah utilized his jab and showed good power, knocking Johnson down once, and cruising to a four-round unanimous decision. Josiah Judah will return to action in August on a Memphis show.

Local favorite Jose "Pepe" Rubio (5-2 with 4 KOs) faced off against Rudy Paz (1-4) of San Antonio, Texas. Rubio was cruising along in this one, until he was caught with a counter left hook in the last seconds of round four. Rubio was unable to make the ten count, and suffered his second loss in a row.

The main event of the evening matched up Miriam Brakache (4-2) against Angelica Martinez (4-2). Martinez landed the cleaner power shots and kept busy with each passing round. Brakache was not an easy opponent for Martinez as she landed some clean power shots of her own. In the end Martinez was a bit too much for the game Brakache, and came away with a close decision.
