No mercy for boxing fans: Mercer announces comeback

Chalk up a win for MMA over boxing. In a case of addition by subtraction for MMA, Ray Mercer is leaving MMA and wants to box again. According to ESPN.com, after a pathetic 72 second loss to Kimbo Slice, a former homeless man with no pro fighting experience and only two months of formal training, the 46 year old Mercer now wants to come back to boxing. The ex-WBO heavyweight titlist and 1988 Olympic gold medalist was quoted as saying, "I walked right into his trap. It was like I put my head in his armpit and said, 'Go ahead, choke me.' From now on, I'm sticking to boxing. I can't get choked out in boxing." Although he has a few wins over guys with good records in this milennium, Mercer hasn't had a truly meaningful win since beating Tim Witherspoon way back in 1996. --Scott Shaffer
