Raul Marquez wins by KO

Louisiana Report

Raul Marquez KO5 Sergio Rios... Former IBF junior middleweight champ Raul Marquez continued to win on the comeback trail, this time breaking down Sergio Rios en route to a fifth round KO. Marquez dropped Rios early in the fifth round with a body shot. Rios got up but Marquez repeated the body attack, putting his opponent down for the count of ten. With the win, Marquez moves to 37-3 while Rios plummets to 18-5. Marquez is now 2-0 since a loss to Jermain Taylor looked like it might end his career.

More results from Coushatta Casino in Kinder, Louisiana... Jose Diaz, the brother of WBA lightweight champion Juan Diaz, scored what would have been a six-round shutout over journeyman featherweight Phillip Payne except for a point deduction for low blows. The scores were 59-54 across the board, with Jose moving to 12-0... Light heavyweight gatekeeper Thomas Reid won an eight-round decision over Manu Ntoh by scores of 80-72 and 79-73 (twice). Reid fights about as tough a schedule as any non-champion in boxing, and his record of 35-17-1 is a bit deceiving... Valerie Mahfood and Alexandra Malloy battled to a six round draw... Houston prospect Chris Henry moves to 14-0 with 13KOs with a first round drubbing of Brock Stodden, who dips to 17-14. Henry fluctuates between light heavy and cruiser... Pro debutant Gwendolyn Mayfield nneded just 1:05 of the first round to knock out Lorissa Rivas, now 1-1.
