Promoters: Salido fought twice in 2005

Say there is no obstacle to IBF eliminator

Boxeo Azteca will travel to Memphis, Tennesee to present an IBF featherweight eliminator between Orlando Salido, 23-9, and Rogers Matagwa, 20-9 on March 18, 2006. Boxingtalk initially reported that Salido, though a talented boxer, hadn't fought since September 2004 and therefore it appeared to be a violation of federal guidelines for the IBF to rate him #3 and allow him to compete in a title eliminator. However, representatives involved in the promotion, George Chung and Sean Gibbons have contacted Boxingtalk to assure us that there is no violation of ABC guidelines because on May 6, 2005, Salido defeated a former world titleholder, Cesar Soto, and on October 15, Salido defeated Leonardo Valdez in one round. They say the results were not picked up by the boxrec website but are reported on the more reliable but less accessible Fight Fax service. Although Boxrec is a valuable resource, this incident points out the danger of relying on that site exclusively. --Scott Shaffer
