Prenice Brewer mans up and apologizes for bizarre post-fight comment

Prenice Brewer made a quite the statement on Friday night, but it wasn’t the one he planned to make. After losing a hard-fought unanimous decision to Ronald Cruz in an NBC Sports televised bout, an irate Brewer made some inflammatory comments during his post-fight interview. Brewer, irate over losing the decision, was being interviewed live on-air by Chris Mannix. Brewer asked mannix what he thought about the decision, and Mannix responded that his colleague Freddie Roach, best known as Manny Pacquiao's trainer, scored the fight for Cruz in Roach's capacity as NBC Sport's analyst. That set Brewer off on a short tirade against Pacquiao. An incensed Brewer yalled, “Freddie? Pacquiao on steroids, he off it now, and he gonna look like shit.”

Boxingtalk: After having a couple days to reflect on your post-fight interview, is there anything you’d like to say?

Prenice Brewer: I would just like to apologize to Freddie Roach and Manny Pacquiao. I was just upset about the way they (the judges) had scored the fight. I still haven’t watched the fight, but I still don’t know how they could have scored it 10-2.  I just need to just train harder and get better.

BT: Were you caught up in the moment after losing the fight?

PB: I was just caught up in the moment and feeling real emotional. I mean, no one is going to be happy after they lose.

BT: Do you believe Manny Pacquiao is on steroids?

PB: Do I believe he’s on steroids? I don’t know. I was just upset, I was just mad. I really shouldn’t have said it. I was just caught up in the moment upset and heated.

BT: So what’s next for you?

PB: That was my first fight at 147. I wasn’t as strong as I am at 140. I am just going to go to the gym and work on a lot of weight training and  get strong. I am going to train harder and just start winning so I can get back up there. I just need to make the best out of it.
